Essential Tips, Tricks, and Basic Setup for Candle Making with Our Aluminum Candle Moulds!

Making Candles With Our Aluminium Moulds

Making candles is a meticulous process that requires patience and attention to detail. Like baking a batch of cakes, candle making involves time-consuming steps such as topping up, cooling, and finishing. You won’t be able to produce 50 candles in a single day unless you have the corresponding number of moulds and can manage all stages simultaneously. Think of it like baking and decorating cakes—each step needs its own time and care.

Safety First:

Working with wax requires careful handling due to its potential hazards. Here are key safety tips:

  • Work Area: Ensure your workspace is well-ventilated to avoid inhaling fumes. Use a heat-resistant surface, such as metal or glass, and keep your area clean and free of flammable materials.

  • Monitor Wax: Never leave melting wax unattended. Use a thermometer to keep the wax within its recommended melting temperature (around 90°C - 100°C) to prevent overheating, which can cause smoke or fire.

  • Heat Resistance: Use a double boiler to melt the wax, which helps prevent direct heat from causing it to overheat. Keep a lid nearby in case of a wax fire—cover the pot to smother the flames, but never use water, as it can cause the wax to splatter.

  • Handling Hot Wax: If melted wax comes into contact with your skin, do not peel it off. Instead, run the affected area under cold water for at least 15 minutes, then apply burn gel and seek medical attention if necessary.

Handling Aluminum Moulds

When working with aluminum candle moulds filled with hot wax, ensure the bottom is secure to prevent spills. Allow the wax to cool before handling the mould, and move it gently to avoid accidents. Avoid washing wax-covered items in the dishwasher to prevent clogs; instead, clean them with hot, soapy water to remove any residue.

Basic Materials Needed to Set Up:

  • Candle Wax: Paraffin or a similar type

  • Wick: Suitable for your mould size

  • Metal Sustainers

  • Pillar or Square Candle Mould

  • Double Boiler or Microwave-Safe Container

  • Thermometer

  • Scale

  • Heat-Resistant Mat or Surface

  • Pouring Jug

Setup:

Prepare Your Workspace:

Select a clean, flat surface for your basic set up for candle making. Protect it with a heat-resistant mat or old newspapers to catch any spills or drips.

Prepare Your Wick and Mould:

Follow the linked tutorials for detailed instructions on setting up your wick and assembling your pillar or square mould.

Melt the Wax:

Use a double boiler or microwave-safe container to melt your candle wax. For a double boiler, fill the bottom pan with water and place the wax in the top pan. If using a microwave, heat the wax in short intervals, stirring in between, until it’s completely melted and has a water-like consistency. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer; it should be between 90°C and 100°C.

Safety Note: Always exercise caution when working with hot wax and open flames. Keep children and pets away from your workspace.

By following these essential tips, you can successfully create beautiful candles with our aluminium candle moulds. Enjoy the process and the satisfaction of crafting your own candles at home!
