Basic Materials You'll Need:
Candle Wax: Paraffin or a similar type
Wick: Suitable for your mould size
Metal Sustainers
Pillar or Square Candle Mould
Double Boiler or Microwave-Safe Container
Thermometer

Heat-Resistant Mat or Surface

Setup:
Prepare Your Workspace:
Select a clean, flat surface for your candle-making. Protect it with a heat-resistant mat or old newspapers to catch any spills or drips.
Prepare Your Wick and Mould:
Follow the linked tutorials for detailed instructions on setting up your wick and assembling your pillar or square mould.
Melt the Wax:
Use a double boiler or microwave-safe container to melt your candle wax. For a double boiler, fill the bottom pan with water and place the wax in the top pan. If using a microwave, heat the wax in short intervals, stirring in between, until it’s completely melted and has a water-like consistency. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer; it should be between 90°C and 100°C.
Safety Note: Always exercise caution when working with hot wax and open flames. Keep children and pets away from your workspace.
Instructions:
Add Colour (Optional): Once the wax is melted, you can add candle dye if desired. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and stir gently to ensure the dye is fully incorporated.
Add Fragrance (Optional): If you wish to add fragrance, mix in fragrance oil according to the manufacturer’s recommendations for the amount of wax you're using. Stir well to evenly distribute the fragrance.
Pour the Wax: Carefully pour the melted wax into your prepared mould, leaving about 15mm from the top. Avoid letting the wax touch the wick pin holder. For a smooth finish, pour the wax in one continuous motion while it’s still hot. If you prefer a more rustic look, pour at a cooler temperature. Gently tap the mould to remove any bubbles and save some wax for topping up later. As the wax cools, it will form a slight depression around the wick pin. After about 15 minutes, twist the wick pins to release them from the wax.

Second Pour (Top Up): Allow the wax to cool for approximately 20 - 30 minutes. As it cools, it will shrink and create a depression. Top up the candle with additional melted wax at a high temperature to avoid a visible line. Tap the mould to remove bubbles and twist the wick pins to loosen them. Repeat this process until the candle reaches your desired height.

Cooling: Let the candle cool completely, which typically takes several hours or overnight. Cooling time may vary based on the size of the mould and environmental conditions. Twist the wick pins at intervals during cooling to ensure it’s loosened for easy removal later.
Removing the Candle from the Mould: Once cooled, gently twist the wick pins to loosen it. Remove the base of the mould and carefully remove the wick pins and wick pin holders. To release the candle, gently heat the tubes with a hot air gun or over a small gas flame, making it easier to push the candle out of the tube.
Levelling: To level the bottom of the candles, heat a small frying pan and gently place the candle in it, moving it in a circular motion until it’s even. This will be the base of your candle.
Add the Wick Assembly: Push the wick pin through the hole in the candle to make sure it is clear of any debris. Insert the wick assembly with the sustainer at the bottom and gently push it until the wick appears at the top. Tap the sustainer to secure it and then trim the wick to about 1cm above the candle.
Final Touches: Clean any excess wax or debris from the candle's surface with a lint-free cloth. Optionally, polish the candle with a soft cloth to enhance its appearance.
